Inspections & Compliance
Keeping vehicles roadworthy and compliant is essential for road safety across Solomon Islands. All vehicles operating on public roads must meet inspection and licensing requirements under the Road Transport framework.
Vehicle inspections help ensure that:
- vehicles are safe to operate
- drivers, passengers, and pedestrians are protected
- defective or unsafe vehicles are identified early
- transport laws and licensing obligations are met
Vehicles may be inspected:
- before initial registration
- during annual licence renewals
- after ownership transfers
- following enforcement notices or roadside inspections
Vehicle Inspection Requirements
The inspection process checks important roadworthiness and safety items including:
- brakes and steering
- lights and indicators
- tyres and wheels
- windscreen and mirrors
- horn and safety equipment
- general vehicle condition and structural safety
Commercial vehicles, buses, taxis, trucks, and public transport vehicles may be subject to additional compliance requirements and more frequent inspections.
Vehicles that fail inspection must have identified defects repaired before being relicensed or returned to service.
